The power of our subconscious self

We all need a mind to stay alive. In a human being, the mind controls all the functions of the body. If a person’s mind is dysfunctional, he may become paralyzed or be called retarded. The mind is the most important organ of the body which distinguishes human beings from animals.
The human mind has the distinct quality that it has a memory and an imagination. This means that the mind can think on an abstract level. It can store objects and events in memory and label them through language, unlike animals. Our mind can think of an object to feel it whereas animals have to touch or see to feel an object.
Because of the human mind’s ability to think in abstract terms , i.e non physical terms, it can create in the future that which does not exist today. For example, aeroplanes, computers , electricity etc. were created out of seeds of human imagination.
There are two aspects of the human mind – the conscious mind and the subconscious mind.
The conscious mind is what we know of our mind. It is 10% of our total mind. The remaining 90% of our mind is the subconscious mind.

As is written in the book “ CREATION OF HAPPINES:THE ENERGY WAR , a soul’s perspective “:

The subconscious mind is like the hard disk of a computer. It has immense storage and processing power.
(Psychologists like Freud and Jung have distinguished between the subconscious and the Unconscious mind, but for the purpose of this book, we are concerned primarily with the ‘subconscious mind’.)
Our subconscious mind is eight-nine times more powerful than the conscious mind.
It controls our autonomic nervous system and maintains the normal functioning of all organs of our body. For example, it maintains our body temperature, our heart beat, repairs damaged tissues etc.
When our body organs start malfunctioning, as in diseases, pains and aches, the subconscious mind is responsible for the problems. As will be elaborated in chapter seven ‘The Law of Creation’, problems are created in the body subconsciously by us, due to an excessive focus on some negative aspects of life. The problems in our physical body are a physical manifestation of a negative emotional state of mind.

For example, diabetes occurs when a person feels wronged by his/her environment. Feelings of guilt, self reproach and disappointment continue over a prolonged period of time before physical symptoms develop. The person typically feels frustrated as after a rigorous, unrewarding routine and has a deep desire to rest which she ignores. A feeling of exhaustion comes due to a constant emotional conflict between balancing different aspects of life. Body symptoms are created such that the life-force energy stops flowing adequately to all organs of the body since the person feels she is not doing justice to all aspects of his/her life  .

The subconscious mind also works as a processing unit, which governs our responses from moment to moment. It is also the storehouse of all our memories, and our past experiences.
The record of our experience and our response mechanism covers data from emotionally intense experiences of our present life, our childhood and our past lives.
Memories are stored in files and similar memories are clubbed together as in a computer data-base.

Our soul lives eternally, and a past life memory is as relevant for our soul as a present life childhood memory is, for determining our emotional responses.
For example, if we have experienced regular or intense abuse from an authoritative figure (like a parent or teacher) in childhood, we may fear confronting people superior to us as adults. The fear of conflict which comes up before facing an authoritative figure is a result of memories of abuse from our childhood.
The person in authority may not be the same and she may not be literally be as superior to us, as a parent or teacher is in childhood. But, it would be a person whom we feel we are answerable to, like a spouse, a boss or a parent-in-law. The fear, stored in the subconscious mind, gets triggered awake each time a similar situation occurs from an emotional perspective, though the person encountered externally may be completely different.
However, childhood abuse may not be the core reason for the fear of confrontation. In most cases, the fear of abuse from an authoritative figure would also come up if we have been abused in a past life in a similar manner, and it would be very prominent if our death in the past life has occurred due to such an abuse.
( like being killed as a slave  ).
The negative memory of being abused remains in the subconscious mind and keeps affecting our behavior in the present life, till the fear energy is transcended into a neutral or positive energy. This can happen with development of confidence, detachment, positivity etc. over a period of soul evolution.

The subconscious mind is ideally called a channel between our body and soul because the soul uses it to create conditions in the body, in tune with the soul’s needs of evolution. The soul creates problems in our mind and body because we need to evolve. Each time we encounter a problem, we try to find a solution to it and as we find solutions, we evolve as souls. Our responses become emotionally more mature as our consciousness expands.

FILTERS IN THE MIND

The internal energies which make us choose how to feel or behave in different situations, are controlled through our subconscious mind. In each moment of life, we are pushed towards making choices subconsciously, by an in-built computer which calculates what are responses should be given the problem.

The chosen responses depend on similar previous experiences we have undergone (in present and past lives), our expectations from the situation, the culture we live in, how our family thinks, what are our values and beliefs, how we perceive our core identity, what do we think of our physical body, what is our main goal in life, what is the context we want to achieve it in, our present circumstances, the overall purpose of life, what we are and what we want to be  etc.

These factors viz. our identity, values and beliefs, circumstances, environment, purpose of life etc. are called FILTERS.

These filters are like a barrier between the conscious and subconscious mind. They filter which information passes from the conscious mind to the subconscious mind.

The filters function like spectacles or glasses. They are very important in soul evolution because, metaphorically, when our glasses change, our perception of the world changes.

For example, if we wear red glasses, everything appears red. But, if we change our glasses to green, the world appears green. If we wear plain glasses, we would see the world in varied colors.

Similarly, if we change our filters, we can view the world in a different manner.
For example, in terms of color therapy, red is the color of anger. Metaphorically, wearing red glasses means viewing the world from an angry mind-set. If we view the world from an angry mind-set, everything appears red, i.e., everything or everyone tries to be deliberately making us angrier.
But if we can remove the red glasses, and take on a mode of neutrality (i.e., wear plain glasses) we can see the world from a different, calmer mode and understand varied perspectives. When we do that, we reach a higher stage of soul evolution.

Our filters largely determine our perception of reality, since they are the factors which determine how information passes from the conscious to the subconscious mind, and how it gets rejected.

The transfer of information from the external world to the mind

The conscious mind is exposed to several bits of information every second. It takes information from the external world and passes it down to the filters.

Filters get activated when an external phenomenon causes an energy shift in the body, i.e., when a feeling is created in response to external stimuli.

Every picture we see, or every sound we hear, we know is real, because it causes an energy shift in our body. This energy shift is created by feelings.

Feelings are electric impulses, which mobilize energy movement within our mind. Feelings are the critical factors in the passing of information from the external world to the subconscious mind.
These feelings or electric impulses are constantly produced in the body in response to its interaction with the external environment.

If feelings are not produced in response to an external phenomenon, an energy shift does not happen in the body, and the information is not perceived by our mind.............continued......
……………………… excerpt from Chapter 2 – Reality or Illusions

In the book IN SEARCH OF HAPPINESS ( how past lives affect the preset, a soul’s perspective), it is explained how we need to address the subconscious mind to overcome problems in life:

“From the perspective of the soul, negative emotions arise because the soul has to learn some emotional lessons from experiencing difficulties; learning which would help in its evolution.
The difficult experience which causes the negative emotions to rise is usually, a part of a life-plan made before taking birth. The time after incarnation in the physical body, is to deal with the mental and physical problem such that the soul lesson is learnt and the soul feels evolved in the process. The problem stops troubling the person only after the person’s point of dominant emotional focus changes from negative to positive.

Our soul knows it has to evolve and hence, creates problems in the body so that the person notices it is going wrong in making choices of life. The problems keep recurring over life-times till the soul can learn to overcome them in its present life.” – excerpt part 2,Chapter 1 – The Introduction
